Patrick Sun shares layered EP ‘Villain Energy’
Patrick Sun is starting off the year with his most honest body of work to date on his new EP, Villain Energy. Through relatable storytelling and hard-hitting bars across the project’s 8 tracks, the Chicago rapper declares his own righteousness after accepting who he truly is as a creator.
Sun especially takes center stage as a lyricist, as it evident throughout the project that he put much thought into his lyrics. He provides a strong performance that focuses on the duality within people, the good and bad, the dark and light. Sun puts together a potent EP as a result, with enough variety to keep the listener re-winding. Songs like the grand opener “Time Crisis”, which is introspective yet aggressive, blending Chicago sounds with some southern flair. “Follow Me” is another standout with mysterious production and crisp, clean flows that create a smoky, ambiguous atmosphere.
“One thing that I want people to take away from [Villian Energy] is understanding who I am as
an artist and who I am as a person… how my artistry has evolved over time and how I try to improve myself with each [release].” – Patrick Sun
Villain Energy can best be described as the peak of Sun’s character arc. The journey of reflection and self-acceptance that listeners hear on Sun’s EP creates an effect that moves on enough to consider the maturation of their own character and how they will ultimately choose to carry themselves in this life.
