ASTN Drops Thrilling New Video for “Be So Cruel”

This week, singer, songwriter, and Tik Tok sensation, ASTN, dropped a thrilling music video for his new track “Be So Cruel”. The track is an ode to exes and moving on from relationships; and how that is easier said than done. “Be So Cruel” premiered at Brain Dead Studios, a charming reinvention of the Silent Movie Theater, founded in 1942, ans followed by a screening of American Psycho.

American Psycho is the primary influence in the direction of the video, with ASTN adopting a Patrick Batemen-esque psychopathy while dealing of his ex finding new love. Despite the video’s dark and ominous tone, the track itself is bouncy and smooth, as ASTN croons about forgetting his ex… until he sees her with another guy that is. “And I hope this breaks y’all up,” he sings, as he violently imagines the final fate of the two lovers.

“‘Be So Cruel’ is one of those songs that happened for me right when I needed it,” ASTN explains. “I had just gotten out of a pretty long term relationship and wasn’t quite sure how to feel about it. This song is a perfect portrayal of that.”

ASTN further explains: ”The lyrics represent the heartache and agony that comes with seeing a previous lover move on. All while the instrumentation behind the lyrics symbolizes a sense of freedom.”

ASTN, pronounced Austin, is an LA based singer, songwriter, and producer, who makes genre-blurring tracks over light and bouncy R&B production. His hooks are infectious and relatable – you can hear more of them on his new five-track EP,  You’re Almost There, available on all streaming services. Keep up with ASTN on Instagram, Twitter , and TikTok and watch his suspenseful new video for “Be So Cruel” below.
