How has your passion for music evolved over the years, and what keeps you motivated? The capability of making it more ME and representative of who I am and who I became has become more possible with the evolution of my skill set. Really just the fact that I got my kids watching me, I want to show them that no matter what you can make your dreams come true.
What do you enjoy most about performing live and connecting with your audience? There’s no better feeling than performing and seeing a crowd vibing to your music, reciting your songs with you. It’s just an amazing feeling to know they’re feeling you.
In what ways do you incorporate elements of Latin music and culture into your performances? Well, the beats are of course Latin sounds, currently, I am working on putting together a band with Latino instrumentation to perform live with me.
How do you think music can bridge cultural gaps and bring people together? Well, I think music and that feeling you get when something makes you want to move is universal. So when you have good music and culture, you will feel it. I am Latino and I grew up with a lot of non-Latino black people. To me, music was always our meeting ground. My first two projects were called Black & Brown for this reason.
What advice would you give to aspiring Latin artists looking to break into the music industry? Don’t stop no matter what. A no is just a step closer to the right yes for you.
Can you share a specific song from your new project that holds special significance to you? “Dime Tu” the single and video is what I’m promoting.
How do you stay authentic and genuine in your music, especially when navigating industry pressures? I am an independent artist so I make the music I feel. My team stands with me and that’s all I need.
What do you see as the future of Latin music, and how do you hope to contribute to its growth? I mean Latin Music is taking over the world. I just hope to contribute my seasoning to the stew.
How do you handle criticism and feedback on your music, both positive and negative? I believe that negative criticism can always be flipped into constructive criticism and I can use it to grow. However, if people aren’t feeling my music then it isn’t for them. The positive feedback is always something so humbling to me. From where I was to where I am…it’s been a long road and I’m happy it’s paying off.
Lastly, what legacy do you hope to leave through your music career, and what impact do you aspire to make on the industry and your fans? I hope to leave behind a legacy of black and brown unity through hip-hop and dope music. I hope to impact the industry by showing Latinos, especially Ecuadorians have something to say like everyone else.
