Spike Lean Is On The Come Up: A Brief Conversation

Q: How has making music affected your life?

Spike Lean: Man music changed my life actually. Changed me as a person, before I even picked up the mic or spit my fist. Bar. I really used to be a nobody. It was one point in time Ian even knew what I was going to do with my life. I didn’t graduate on time. Basketball wasnt going well for me cause I got in an accident my senior year. Everything was going downhill. So one day I got into a really deep thought. I was 17 around this time. I thought to myself I’m creepin up on 18. I’m gonna get ready to graduate and get out in the real world where I can’t just go to school and do what I want to get by no more. I def didn’t wanna be scraping paycheck to paycheck my whole life. So I sat and asked myself how I could get rich. And rapping just came to mind cause Ik that’s a lot of people’s way out. I gave it a try. I gifted myself my first ever studio session on July 26th 2019. And I enjoyed the process. I fell in love with it ever since.

Q: What’s the process from start to finish of creating a song like for you?

Spike Lean: I go look for a beat whether it’s from my email or YouTube but now 9/10 it’s from my email. Find a beat I like. Send it to my producer and go inna studio and roll me up a nice back wood. Get the creative juices flowing and spit how I feel. A lot of it is freestyle because the person who inspired me to make my first song was Juice Wrld.

Q: What’s the message behind your music? What do you want your audience to know?

Spike Lean: That u can do anything you put your mind 2. Even if the whole state Fucc it, even if the whole world is against you, you can prove everybody wrong and still prevail. Nothing is impossible and I’m living proof.

Q: How have the haters influenced your career? Do you think negative criticism pushed you to do better?

Spike Lean: So many people told me I couldn’t do it or give up rapping. Everything in a book you named it. And one of the people who told me that in the beginning of my career. Literally made them eat their words and turned me into a fan. So that right there showed me anything is possible. So after that, I was running it up and being consistent. Proving the state wrong. It’s been a year straight of consistent videos, tapes, photoshoots, events and more.
