Kerri Connects with Skinny Atlas on New Single “Things I Want”

Coming off the release of his 2022 EP, glow, R&B artist kerri returns with a moody collaboration with Skinny Atlas. “Things I Want” is off of the artist’s upcoming EP, BUNNYHUG, set to be released in February of next year and features kerri’s signature melancholy approach to songwriting. When asked about the song kerri was quoted saying:

“‘Things I Want’ was written in the Summer of 2022 in New York and Montreal. I wrote about my struggles with interpersonal relationships and finding a place to call home. This song was inspired by the frustration of not being able to hold on to the things I love or live up to societal standards while acknowledging that I’m still young, processing my life, and don’t quite yet feel ready to move on to a new chapter in life.”

kerri has been slowly yet assertively carving his own lane in R&B. After a few electronic-based monikers, he began releasing music under his real name in 2017 with his first single “My Boo”. Since then the songwriter/producer has crafted a prolific discography filled with sentimental tunes that are driven by kerri’s poetic songwriting and his use of ambiance. kerri’s unique approach to song structure uses muddy tones and subtle electronic elements that act as a fitting backdrop for his ever-fluctuating voice.

“Things I Want” continues kerri’s streak of terrific releases without recycling tropes used on prior releases. The gentle guitar melody that drives the instrumentation sets the rain-cloud-like mood of the song. kerri croons over this spacious arrangement as he powers through the vague yet potent lyrics that are beautifully penned. If this is the kind of sound we can expect from kerri’s upcoming EP, we have the makings of something truly special.
