Exclusive Interview With: Patrick Cc:

PatrickCc: is one of the newest tastemakers in underground hip-hop, has one of the fastest growing hip-hop Youtube channels, and an executive producer following his project “Launch Sequence” he put out last year. For those who didn’t catch it, on Friday he released an experimental Discord album titled “24”, that was entirely created in 24 hours with members of his Discord server. Recently, I was able to talk to him about how the entire album came together from its inception to its release and a little bit of his plans for the future in this exclusive LoadingMagazine interview!

For Starters, I want to commend you on this idea and the project as a whole because it’s really unique and honestly super impressive for being done in 24 hours, Where did the initial idea come from?

“Thank you! Last year I made an entire album by purchasing freelance services on fiverr. So I found producers, rappers, engineers & even graphic artists to make me a 4 track “album.” It turned out really bad and I realized if I just connected with my community we could do it in discord. Plus, I have been constantly trying to think of “viral” ideas. 24 hour challenges are a tried and true meta on YouTube. And I have never seen someone make an entire album that fast so I figured why not try!”

Do you know if anyone has ever done a group project through discord at this level?

“Not that I know of. But I do know that a lot of upcoming artists will use discord to connect & collaborate. It is much faster than texting/facetime. You can share your screen, drop files in a text chat and record yourself all while remaining on a video call with someone. It’s actually a great way to collaborate. (not a discord ad*)”

Was there a large boost in artists joining your discord server once you announced the project? Or was it mostly artists/supporters already in your community that participated?

“Totally, I think we had at least 2,000 new people join. To this day we are about 5,000 people deep so hopefully it keeps growing! And I actually made a discord for this project specifically so we started at 0 just 1 month ago!”

Was the amount of submissions overwhelming? The beat submission channel was packed, Did you have any particular way of sorting through beats?

“Super overwhelming. There were just under 2,000 beats lol. I listened to the first 300 or 400 then I sent my friends butteryjohn & kevoffline on a hunt to sift through and find some good ones. I also had some of my mods and friends with good taste hunt through and link me to their favorites. But ultimately I made the final decision.”

With such a short time you gave yourself, How did you keep yourself from just drowning it all out and having it all sound the same?

“I tried to pick unique sounding beats to encourage versatility. But a lot of people in my community like guitar beats and melodic hip hop. So a lot of the submissions ended up sounding similar. There were a lot of talented performances that did not make it because I didn’t want to have a bunch of the same sound.”

This project is curated by you similarly to your “Launch Sequence” project earlier this year, Was this easier to work on since it was on a smaller scale?

“It was easier in the way that people were super responsive and hungry to be a part of it. I didn’t have to convince anyone it was a good idea; they believed in me. Plus, there was no time to waste considering there were only 24 hours to make it happen. Everyone who made it to the final album were not only talented but efficient with their workflow.”

8 tracks is short but long enough to make an impact, Did you consider having it be longer?

“Going into it I thought we would be lucky to get 3 or 4 good songs. I’m excited it ended up being 8. I didn’t want more than 10 though.”

What track off the project is your favorite?

“I hate this question. I am a man who NEVER picks favorites. I think that’s what makes me good at what I do. I really don’t have a favorite anything..”

Do you plan on doing something like this again or another full project like “Launch Sequence”?

“We will see how the project performs. I gotta keep switching it up and doing different things. I think I wanna do something like this but livestream it on Twitch? Yea lets try that!”

Did any artist or producer on the project stand out or come on to your radar for the first time?

“On my previous album (Launch Sequence) I had 58 different people who were a part of it. This album (24) has 36 people. Only 5 of them were artists I already knew. So yeah I got to collaborate with 31 new artists!  Plus there were a ton more that didn’t make it to the final that had some dope submissions.”

You have your own platform on Youtube for upcoming artists to put out music videos, Did any artist who was ever featured on JOTA appear on the project?

“Actually yes, damn drone was an artist we featured on JOTA that ended up getting a placement on the album. He is really talented! Also, Blvff has a video on JOTA as a performer, but he mixed/mastered the last track on the album.”

Do you plan on making any music videos for the project like the “Black Hole Sun” video you recently released?

“I’m not sure, still have the whole c*vid thing going on, traveling to meet up might be tricky. We will see how well the songs stream!”

Thank you again doing this interview! Lastly, Is there anything you want to plug or any message you wanna put out to the world?

“No Thank You for having me! STREAM ‘24’!”

You heard it from the man himself, Go stream “24” on all streaming services and go check out Patrick’s video on the creation of this super impressive 8 track album. Its the perfect length to just let the whole project rock top to bottom and you may just find a new upcoming artist you really enjoy.
