DS – Congratulations on your upcoming single release!

IZ – Thanks so much! It’s a relief to reach this point in the process.

DS – Can you tell us a bit about the inspiration behind this new song?

IZ – “Creed” is a delusional love song. And like all my music, it was inspired by real life events. There was a time when I was looking for love in all the wrong places because deep down I was very insecure. I would pursue the sort of black-sheep type of girl society tells you are “baddies”. It was bad alright haha. But I felt a need to “fix” this particular girl – call it a savior complex. So yeah, this song is inspired by that experience.

DS – How does this upcoming single compare to your previous releases in terms of style and message?

IZ – Cliche to say but it is totally different. As I am finding my sound I am trying to reach as far as I can in different directions to see what works for my style. The message is different as well. Most of my other releases talk about heartbreak or just living life. This is my first love song and it definitely doesn’t fit the mold of your typical love song.

DS – Nashville is known for its vibrant music scene. How has being in this city influenced your music and career as an artist?

IZ – A lot more than I probably think. I am a sponge. I absorb every experience and every aspect of my surroundings, good or bad. One cool thing about living in Nashville is I am constantly surrounded by other creatives grinding at a higher level then I’ve seen elsewhere. It is honestly a little intimidating at times but it drives me to go harder. Another cool thing is I feel very accepted by the music community here. Even by the Country crowd on Broadway. They show me incredible love and support down there.

DS – Can you walk us through your creative process when it comes to writing and producing music?

IZ – Sure! So how I typically do it is I start with an idea that I usually already have. I write a lot of stuff down and take a lot of voice memos. Sometimes I even take a piece of poetry I’ve written and form a concept based off of that. A good chunk of that happens in my head before I even start thinking about sound. After brainstorming I grab my acoustic guitar, sit at the piano, or go to my computer.

Quality songwriting is really important to me. I start with a stream of conscious writing flow then go back over what I create and edit things to make my lyrics feel more conversational.

With production, I usually try to get that started within the first hour of my writing process. Occasionally I’ll start with a bassline or a drum beat and topline to that, but I usually treat production as a tool to further accomplish serving the song as a whole. That being said, I break my own creative habits all the time in order to find new ways of doing things.

DS – What can listeners expect from your new single in terms of sound and lyrical content?

IZ – As far as sound, you can expect to hear a bunch of stuff. There’s a fluffy bassline, lots of vocal harmonies, a soul-choir, 80s synths, an electric guitar and I even found a way to sneak in a Drill beat in the Hook.

Lyrically there’s kinda a lot going on. Each Chorus has different lyrics but with the same melody.  The first chorus is me breaking down her walls. I say “sweetie you’re doing great with your man hater feng shui” then letting her know it has the “opposite effect on me; I know deep down I’m your creed”. Second chorus is me warning another guy that he doesn’t stand a chance against her. She’s mine.

In the verses I defend my muse against her bad reputation and go on to describe the intense, almost biblical loyalty she has for me. So yeah, some interesting stuff lyrically.

DS – Collaborations are common in the music industry. Are there any artists you’d love to collaborate with in the future?

IZ – I have a very long A-list haha. I won’t say too much about that. What I will say is that I’m just grateful that I have the opportunity to start behind the pack. I think that gives me an aura of humility that sets me up as a great collaborator. I hope to always carry that aura with me in my career. Self plug to all the creatives listening here; if you rock with my music or anything about me I would love to talk about potential collabs. Just message me on any of my socials.

DS – What do you hope listeners will take away from your music, particularly from this new single?

IZ – I want them to jam out and find a cool vibe. We all listen to music differently. I just hope I can add something positive or relatable into my listeners’ lives.

DS – With the music industry constantly evolving, how do you stay authentic to your sound while also staying relevant to current trends?

IZ – My authenticity has a lot to do with my lifestyle. I keep things pretty easy going, taking care of my mind and body as best I can. I read a lot of different books and try to stay off my phone and just go outside with my dog Gypsy whenever I’m bored. I think trends on social media are inspired by other art forms such as film, stand-up comedy, fashion, and food. Trends are also a result of real life. People find what others do interesting and want to be like them, seems pretty simple. I focus on being active in my environment and social circles which I feel makes me pretty aware of what’s relevant.

DS – How do you plan to promote your new single and connect with your audience in the age of social media and digital streaming platforms?

IZ – Honestly just full throttle on promo like this. Finding different opportunities to get in front of all sorts of people so I can start establishing my fan base and grow my career. I am also putting out a bunch of related content like music videos, TikToks, and production breakdowns which I think will help get people interested in what I’m doing.

DS – Lastly, what’s next for Isaiah Zach after the release of this single? Any upcoming projects or performances we should keep an eye out for?

IZ – This single will be my 4th single I’ve put out. After that, I have one more then I’m dropping an EP in the middle of March. After that it will be a lot of video work, radio promotion, social media, live shows, and stuff like that. I’m also planning on dropping a single or two this Summer.
