Wifisfuneral Finally Releases Highly Anticipated Debut Album “PAIN?” (Album Review)
Since signing with Alamo Records (Interscope) in 2017, Over the last two and a half years WIFISFUNERAL has shown nothing but consistency, artistic growth, and even made the XXL Freshman List in 2018. After the release of several singles showing new sounds, a singing voice we haven’t heard before, and new artistic ambitions we’re finally at the release of his debut album “PAIN?”
The album consists of 14 tracks with features from Coi Leray, Smoove’L, and Mariah Angeliq & production from Jimmy Duval, Cian P, Nvbeel, TNO Beats, and more. Wifi is
definitely going for a much more melodic and accessible sound with this project. There’s tracks where he’s genuinely singing his heart out over pop-inspired instrumentation like my personal favorite on the album “Take Me Away” and tracks that are R&B flavored like “Lost In Time” . The new sounds Wifi uses feel natural and unforced. That isn’t to say the project doesn’t feature the style he found success with in the first place, tracks like “Screw Up” and “Motion” feel like Wifi is where he is most comfortable, with fast & technical flows over hard hitting production. He truly seems to have found a perfect mix across the tracklist.
Overall he crafted a very solid and impactful debut album that sticks out from his older mixtapes and EPs. It genuinely feels like an album and is much more cinematic. It feels like he’s just one song blowing up from major mainstream success and I feel like a number of tracks on this album could be it. It’s been out a week now and has stayed on repeat the whole week and will be for some time. It may have gone under the radar for most rap fans but this is definitely one of the better projects to come out this year and we’re excited to see what Wifisfuneral will do next.
