Jermaine Robinson’s Newest Single ‘Rap Sinatra’ Shines a Bright Light on Authenticity

Born and raised in East Point, Ga, Rapper and Producer Jermaine Robinson quickly learned that his passions for musicianship would soon turn his hobby into a full-time career. His music has always centered around two things. One, to always challenge the norm in efforts of progression, and two, to shine an unapologetic light on the complexities of the human experience. With musical influences like Outkast, J.Cole, Kendrick Lamar, and Lil Wayne, Jermaine credits his sound to a life-long journey of being unpredictable, which he says is a gift and a curse. The lyrics in his music are deeply rooted in honesty and transparent storytelling, and he’s able to convey that through jazzy boom-bap sonics and fiery trap anthems. “Music has always been my life, and my own personal experiences are not something you can put in a box. There’s no right or wrong way to feel about something, but just as long as you do feel, then my job is done.” One thing is for sure: Jermaine Robinson’s music will always make you feel something.

Jermaine Robinson is here today to drop off his newly released single, ‘Rap Sinatra.’ The new track resembles strength and fortitude for the Georgia-born musician, as he embarks on a new phase in his career. The track represents Jermaine’s commitment to entering a new era in his songwriting. He explains it as this: “The song is about me personally leaning into complete maturity not only as a hip-hop artist, but also as a human being. When writing the lyrics to ‘Rap Sinatra,’ I wanted to be unapologetic in my authenticity.” He continues, “The first verse opens with the words ‘A man secured in self-assurance is at his most lethal,’ which sets the tone for the whole song. The energy throughout the track shifts and takes on new levels; the groove has a lot more drive, the vocal delivery is more forceful. So much pain is conveyed in those words, but in the resolution, that pain becomes strength.”

With punchy brass, anthemic choruses and deep, driving drum rhythms, ‘Rap Sinatra’ marries iconic, mid-century big band sounds with Jermaine’s fresh, contemporary rap line. From the dignified power of the spoken-word intro, which draws in the listener, to guest vocalist Zorina’s stirring chorus refrains, ‘Rap Sinatra’ packs soulful, blues-inspired melodies into a track which truly transcends genres.
