WILCON Has Something To Prove On New Single “I Can Rap”

WILCON is back with his latest single “I Can Rap”, his first release since his “YOUTUBE JESUS” mixtape in January. The single is produced by Max Crowe, who also co-directed the song’s accompanying music video alongside WILCON.
The 21-year-old MC hails from Tuckahoe, New York but has since relocated to the Los Angeles area to pursue his music career. “I Can Rap” is a testament to the hard work he’s put in over the five years he’s been rapping and showcases the versatile flows and intuitive punchlines he’s developed.
“I wasn’t very good in high school, but now I’m the best rapper that anyone I know knows,” said WILCON. “This song is kind of a wake up call, like alerting people to the fact that I’ve been putting in work and it’s starting to pay off.”
The track itself has some groovy drums built over a jazzy soul sample. His voice fits naturally over the beat, and his interesting double entendres and witty quips make the tune a pleasant listen. He raps with confidence as he proclaims to the world that “I Can Rap”, and he has every right to do so. The man can rap.
For the music video, WILCON is seen rapping on a mountainside, under a tree, and in his Hyundai Veloster. The visual is entirely captured with a fisheye lens and a grainy filter, giving it a Beastie Boys and MTV era feel. According to WILCON, the concept and execution were quite simple.
“Max and I shot the whole thing in about twenty minutes,” he said. “We did three different takes in three spots that were all really close to each other, and it just proved that sometimes, simplicity works the best.”
WILCON is certainly an artist to keep on your radar. One listen to “I Can Rap” proves that he can in fact rap, and that he will be doing so with great success for a long time to come.
