The DiCea Interview

I recently tapped in with the lad DiCea, he’s a young up-coming artist from Flint, Michigan with an unmatchable drive for success. DiCea doesn’t wait for opportunities, he creates them for himself. From freestyling for Fivio Foreign & The Kid Laroi, he’s on a mission to break into the music scene. I got to pick his brain and see how these moments all came to be, and learn a little more about this talented Michigander.

DS – First off introduce yourself, where are you from? How old are you? And where did the name DdiCea come from?

DA – My name is Dylan DiCea, I am 19 years old from the Flint, MI area. DdiCea has been a nickname i’ve been called since I was a kid. My friends also called me a variety of similar nicknames such as “dice”, “ddice”, “dicea”, etc. Yet, whenever it came to having to choose a username for something like a video game or a social media account, I always went with ddicea, so I guess thats why it stuck.

DS – How would you describe your sound to someone who’s never listened to DdiCea?

DA – I would describe my sound as fresh, uplifting hip-hop/rap. Although, when I make my music I dont like to limit myself to any specific genre. My music is what is creatively going on inside of my mind. So, wherever my thoughts may be on the day that I’m recording, the song will reflect that, no matter the genre.

DS – Where to you draw inspiration from yo make music?

DA – For as long as I can remember, music has been a part of me. Growing up I had solos in the school plays, played the piano, and would often get in trouble for whistling too much and “distracting” the class in elementary school. So I guess the actual idea of expressing myself musically has always been a part of me. Growing up, I listened to/was inspired by to a lot of Kanye West, Mac Miller, and Bruno Mars (and still do/am). Yet, some of my biggest newer inspirations are artists like Jack Harlow and The Kid Laroi.

DS – We have to talk about the clips of you rapping for Fivio Foreign & The Kid Laroi.

DA – To start, I am a firm believer that everything happens for a reason. I say this because I couldn’t have been more in the right place at the right time when I rapped for Fivio. My friend and I had tickets to his show in Detroit and decided to get there early so we could have a good spot in line. We parked around the corner of the venue, got out and started walking towards the doors. I looked to my left and saw two huge, gold tour buses. Out of curiosity, we decided to wait and see if Fivio got out. About 30 seconds later he walked out of the bus and I instantly started yelling his name asking if I could rap for him. A minute or so later his friends got his attention and Fivio started walking over to me. He pulled his phone out of his pocket and started recording, and the rest is history.

The way I was able to rap for Laroi was a little different. My parents agreed to split the cost of meet and greet tickets to his show for my birthday in Feburary. Due to covid, his tour got pushed back a few months to August. So I had a lot of time on my hands to plot and think about how I wanted to approach the situation. When the day of his show came around I was prepared with what I was going to do. I got to the show about 4 hours early and was 3rd in line for the meet and greet. They eventually walked us to the meet and greet area where they told us we could get one picture and then we are done. When it was my turn to go, I asked the security guard to record it instead of take a picture. I walked up to Laroi and had a short conversation introducing myself and asking if I could rap to him. He agreed and like I said earlier, the rest is history.

DS – What was it like after the camera was turned off? It looked like both Foreign & Laroi were vibing with you.

DA – After the camera was off for fivio, I had a brief conversation with him and some of the members of his team. I showed a few of them my instagram and thanked fivio for the opportunity. This made the show super fun after because i knew i just rapped for who the whole crowd was cheering for.

After Laroi, the security guards guided me along and told me which way to go. I felt like it was a movie. The way everything played out was something I will never forget. Meeting such an idol of mine and getting the opportunity to rap to him was truly surreal for me.

What made you want to go down and tap for these two massive artists?

DS – Were you nervous at all?

DA – Have you ever made a mental note that you HAVE to get something done? Like okay, if I get anything done today, I HAVE to get this one things done for sure type of thing. I had this same mindset when faced with the opportunities to rap for artists that have been true, real inspirations to my career and my character. I knew these moments were something that were be a part of my life/career. It was something that just had to be done or else it would be complete missed opportunity.

During the Fivio situation, it kind of just happened and I really didn’t have time to over think anything. I wasn’t really nervous or anxious much until after it happened and it sunk in what was actually going on. For Laroi, I was super anxious leading up to the moment because of all the waiting in lines and rooms. Yet when it came down it I had the same feeling as i mentioned earlier, it had to be done no matter what, and this time i was prepared.

DS – What are some goals for yourself going into 2023?

DA – A few goals I have for 2023 are collabing with more artists, continuing to grow as a musician and creator, and have an even more successful year than 2022. A few artists im hoping to collab with in 2023 are Arden Jones, Tuxx (again), and BabyTron.

DS – Where can the people find your music?

DA – My music can be found at DdiCea on all platforms! You can follow my music journey on tiktok @ddicea and instagram @ddiceaa, and watch my Music Videos and long form content @ddicea on Youtube.

DS – Any up-coming drops or project we should be on the lookout for?

DA – Definitely be on the lookout for my upcoming singles for the rest of the year. There has been a lot going on behind the scenes with music videos and production in order to make sure the rest of this years roll-out goes smooth, and I can’t wait for everyone to hear it!
