Tax Szn with Interstate Tax
Tennessee, home of the volunteers and some of the most diverse artists I personally listen to. What I love about Tennessee’s music is the grittiness and raw emotion you hear in every song. Known Chattanooga artist, “Interstate Tax”, brings all of that and more with every release.
It has been a year since he last dropped and I am excited to present his newest single, “G-Wagon.” Sitting at 1 minute and 39 seconds, it is almost like he released this single as an intro back in to his career. He keeps it short and sweet but delivers his statement through the up-beat, sub bass infused production. This song gives a subtle reminder that he is still on his s*** and ready to step on anyone in his way.
Those who follow the Chattanooga rap scene remember Tax from a viral news story involving him being a victim of police brutality. Charles Toney (Tax) was approached by Blake Kilpatrick and other officers of the Hamilton County Police Department claiming to have a warrant for his arrest from a 2017 drug possession case. Shortly after, officers began beating Tax and even mentioned not liking the music he makes. This happened in December of 2018, and resulted in Tax suffering from a broken nose, collapsed lung and two broken ribs.
Back to the point, it is now 2022 and although Tax has been through a lot, he is back to show the world how serious he is as an artist and loving husband. I asked Tax a series of questions so I could fully understand him as a person and from what I took out of our conversation, he is a hell of a guy who wants nothing more than to express himself and make sure his family is fed.
Along with being an amazing artist, Tax is also a talented chef! No seriously, he posted some ox tails on his Snapchat story that had me watering at the mouth. He told me himself that he is the “Rap Chef.”
When I asked Tax about his current influences in the rap game and who he listens to, he mentioned having hella love for the Detroit scene, especially artist “Peezy,” who he mentioned he would love to work with. Another artist he keeps in his heavy rotation is Florida rapper Kodak Black.
