R&B Crooner Syo’s Shares His Debut EP ‘Senioritis’
Texas native Syo is bringing something new to the game with his debut EP ‘Senioritis.’ In a 6-track, cleverly titled project, Syo shows off and brings his A-game to deliver tracks that set him apart and tell his story.
The artist has a distinctively unique sound, blending a plethora of genres to create his sound, combining Neo-Soul, Blues, R&B, and Hip Hop, to create a chill and laid back sound with hard-hitting lyrics and an impeccable cadence.
Syo says his music is “grounded in Hip-Hop,” yet has remnants of Neo-soul R&B, Blues, and something positively different. Syo said in a recent interview that he draws his influences from some of the greats such as Lauryn Hill, Sade, Erykah Badu, Janelle Monae, Kendrick Lamar, and Outkast, heard in his unique sound and vulnerable lyricism.
Syo’s latest project Senioritis is a vulnerable and conscious action towards “a mental journey of life lessons.” The concept is about how he described certain moments in high school/college that shaped and altered him.
The six-song EP tracks his life through high school into college, starting with the leading track, “freshman,” briding into “Sophmore Kid,” which transitions to “Junior Year Blues.” Followed by the eponymous song “senioritis.” Each song is a different phase in Syo’s life, and that is evident from the subject matter to the sound of each track.
Syo does an impeccable job at briding each song, the following record, “Gradu8,” is ironic and juxtaposes a traditional coming of age or graduation song, which is commonly happy and upbeat, while “Gradu8” is a glum and conceptual song about growing up. The last song on the project, “Don’t Let the Soul Fool You,” is about all the growth he has learned over the past five songs. The final track is about reaching a point in your life where you need to follow your soul. Even if you think you are on the right path, sometimes “following directions” can still get you lost.
Syo is an unbelievable artist with a story to tell and inspire. He makes music truly for the love of making it and wanting to connect to his audience. His love and passion for music and his fans set him apart from everyone else and will be a cognitive factor in his future success as an artist.
SYO’s primary goal is to continue to tap into the hearts of many and allow his creativity to speak for him.
