Polo G “Hall of Fame” – Album Breakdown
Chicago’s very own Polo G has definitely been earning his place in rap’s most necessary new emcees over the last 3 years. He’s only locking that spot in further with the release of his new album, “Hall of Fame”, which is his 3rd album since he debuted with “Die a Legend” in 2019. Polo is at a whole new level in his career with this album release and the lead single, “Rapstar” which marked his first #1 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. At such a new height in his career the pressure is on higher than ever to deliver and its safe to say he does just that.
“Hall of Fame” is the 2020 XXL Freshman’s longest project to date, sitting at 20 tracks. The album includes production from Weezy, Synco, Taz Taylor, Nick Mira, AXL Beats, and more. Its also Polo’s most feature-heavy project with features from Young Thug, Lil Durk, Nicki Minaj, DaBaby, Lil Wayne, Roddy Ricch, and more including a posthumous feature from Pop Smoke on the drill anthem “Clueless”. Polo is established and has proved he can get by with minimal features on previous projects, so him tapping in his peers on this level only feels natural.
Standout tracks on “Hall of Fame” have to be “Black Hearted”, “No Return” with Lil Durk & The Kid LAROI who provides a killer hook for Durk and Polo to follow up with verses just as hard, “Toxic”, “Gang Gang” with Lil Wayne, and the Rod Wave assisted “Heart of a Giant”. This album shows Polo G at his most confident and aggressive but also showing his most honest and conscious sides. Its what makes Polo such a good artist, he’s super multi dimensional and “Hall of Fame” shows that even more than previous projects. Since it dropped Thursday night, all 20 tracks have been on repeat all day here at LoadingMagazine and it doesn’t look like that’ll change any time soon. He gave us a great project and halfway through the year it’s already one of the best albums of 2021.
