Dave’s First Day with JetPackTV

JetpackTV has single-handedly taken the crown as the top videographer in Massachusetts. JetpackTV is a music video and content series that takes the audience straight to the most dangerous parts of Massachusetts and gives you a clear idea of where some of these rappers are from, and what they go through. Founded by @WatsynFilmz, the JetpackTV series represents way more than just an “On The Block” type freestyle. He has created and curated a platform that has the power to raise up any artist that he deems fire enough to work with. Some of my personal favorites that he’s worked with are 33 Static, Wave Capone, Trottiey Gizzle, and the Late Fetti Gz. I had the pleasure of interviewing @Watsynfilmz for a piece I’m doing on Boston’s rap culture and we realized we had the same vision for what the Massachusetts scene could be. Since we both spent time in Florida we both understand that if the scene moves as a unit, and works together, the whole scene benefits. Florida rap has slowly been transitioning from the underground into a blossoming and influential rap scene. We are trying to get Massachusetts to set politics aside and work together to pull up the hip-hop scene. Otherwise, how are we better than crabs in a barrel?

I got to spend a day in the life with JetpackTV. It started with waking my ass up at 6 am like I have a real job. I picked Static up in Lawrence MA and we stopped at Jetpack’s house before we had the long ride to New York. It was me and Static’s first time going to NY in our adult life so we were excited. 33 Static is a young artist who has a work ethic like I’ve never seen. He charges $5k a feature and it’s well deserved. He does numbers, he has insane talent matched with quality lyrics, and he doesn’t cap about who he is. He’s really out here. 33 had been up for 2 days in a row in a studio recording so I got to hear his unreleased. He made enough heaters for an EP and then some. It was all gas it definitely set a crazy tone to start the day. Shortly after he was done with his new music he passed out for almost the whole day. We made it out to New Jersey to meet up with our clients and start filming scenes in an abandoned house. We were parked at the gas station for legit Hours waiting on these dudes to pull up so this gave me some time to learn more about how JetpackTV started. He is an established videographer that has worked with big artists such as Tee Grizzley but is especially known for working with artists here in MA. He noticed that in different parts of the country there were freestyle sessions being filmed but they would skip over Boston EVERY time they’d go around the country. He said why the fuck not and thus, JetpackTV was born. He’s branched out to New York slightly when he did a video with NEMS an artist from Coney Island whose most famous for his song and catchphrase ‘BING BONG’. When asked about taking more field trips for JetpackTV he said “We’re trying to make that a regular thing.” While we had time he called up Local hip-hop legend Termanology. They got to catch up on what we were doing and what Termanology has in the works. That story is for another day.

We finally got ahold of these rappers from Jersey and they crashed the rented Benz into a whole city Bus on the way. As one in Jersey does. Granted there was maaad snow on the ground but what can you do?
We wanted to cancel for the day but they were right we made it all this way, the show must go on, right?

So we crawled in through the window. Threw a straitjacket on him right away and got to work. A typical day for JetPackTV. As we were leaving the Bando, however, we realized Oh fuck. We were completely surrounded by 12. Caught us slipping. We stayed cool though. We weren’t doing anything bad after all just trying to do something positive all the while creating something dope. We had to explain to the cops that it looks crazy because it IS crazy that we were shooting a music video there. By the end, we were all good to go and we were shooting the shit. One of the cops busted my balls and said “hey you were looking pretty pale back there.” No shit sir you had a gun in my face. Needless to say, it was a wild first day so far.

Unfortunately for 33 Static and me, there was no time for chopped cheese. We were losing daylight and we started to realize we didn’t have time to slide to NY. So we smoked some weed and made a new plan on the fly. First stop: The ATM. We found a TD bank that looked spooky enough and started to set up. Within minutes a bottle of Hennessy is being passed around, cards were swiped and money was being thrown in the air. Not a little money either. We’re talking rapper money. Also, one of the rapper’s associates had a solid gold pendant completely covered in diamonds. He had the testing kit on him too so you know that hit. In one day I’ve seen extreme wealth and extreme poverty all in one place.

We ended the night by calling up an Uber Black since they crashed the G wagon. We paid the driver of the Truck to let Easy hang out of the window while we filmed him. The only problem was, we were driving in the opposite lane of traffic. Luckily Easy had his boys blocking off traffic in their other Benz.

What a wild day right? What’s a better way to end a crazy-ass day than getting 30 sliders from White Castle. While I was eating with Jetpack and Static, they told me that this is just another day in the life for them. I’ve done a lot and been through a lot while working in this industry but I’ve never had a bigger thrill than experience with JetpackTV, and I want every hip hop fan in the country to see the world through Jetpack’s eyes. Even if just for a few minutes. Subscribe to @JETPACKTV for the ride of a lifetime.
