Haisai Maché shares genre-bending new EP ‘Mr. Hunchback’
Haisai Maché, hailing from Virginia by-way of Washington DC, has shared a fresh new EP called Mr. Hunchback. Containing dynamic, genre-bending instrumentation and eclectic vocals that draw influence from a variety of genres including hip-hop, dance, alt-pop and more, Maché delivers a vibrant and engaging offering across a series of 4-tracks.
Title track “Mr. Hunchback” begins the EP with a colorful instrumental that neatly blends elements from hip-hop, pop, electronic and more to create a cohesive, lively soundscape. Building an enticing groove using crisp percussion and rich bass, the song is catchy and vibrant. Over top of the addictive rhythm section, balmy guitars and bright synths add layers to the production and create a solid foundation for Maché’s infectious vocal melodies. “World Cup” follows up with an airier, lighter sound palette centred around sleek reversed keys and clean drums. Over top, he adds vitality to the track with energizing vocals containing memorable songwriting. The third song “Closure” blends genres engagingly with immersive keys contrasting with powerful drums and grooving bass. Here, Maché delivers a character-rich series of verses and an ear-worm chorus that add extra replay value to the track. Lastly, “Do You Like My Love?” closes out the EP, providing a dream-like listening experiences that mixes spacey, forward-thinking production and deep grooves with sharply-crafted vocals.
