ArmstrongWW brings DIY ethos on heartfelt EP, ‘Recovery’
Cameroon-born, Houston-based artist ArmstrongWW has dropped off his debut EP, titled Recovery. A soulful, thoughtful set of 7 songs, Recovery finds him taking us on an introspective journey- expressed through the lens of the musician’s DIY ethos. Lyrically, Armstrong is focused and heartfelt on the project, as he delivers diverse vocals atop self-produced instrumentation, as well as beats from Domain Brown, and Bowen Thi. In his usual fashion, ArmstrongWW also engineered the entire EP. from his one bedroom apartment using the popular DAW FL Studio. This DIY feeling can be felt throughout the entire collection as he had free reign to include harmonies which complimented his pensive lyricism.
The project’s opener “Hello World” is a down-to-earth look at where ArmstrongWW is at in life and his place as an artist, and it makes for a relatable approach to the start of the record. Next, “Momma Say” and “Superstar You” take his songwriting to new heights as he incorporates dynamic melodies delivered in a soulful fashion. “Writers Block” presents a colorful, atmospheric jazz hop joint with infectious bass and warm keys that acts as an instrumental break in the record, while the title track closer makes for a highlight with its emotive, immersive style and sharp flows.
The latest from ArmstrongWW, Recovery makes for an authentic, potent new project that begins the artist’s year on a strong note.
