An Interview With 14-Year-Old Director Chris Doyle

Q: What’s up Chris! Tell everyone a little bit about yourself!
Chris: Yo wassup! I go by the name “The Kid EDTR”, I edit for people, and also make edits for my instagram page, @thekidedtr. I was born in New Orleans, and lived there for a few years until I moved to Houston, TX. I’ve always had a passion for editing videos, for me it has always been so fun and rewarding just seeing everything come together, and form a “satisfying” end result. My first, I guess you can say “actual” editing experience was in 2015 to early 2016. I used to make trick shot videos, and edited them on my iPod Touch using iMovie, or Splice. I had amassed around 250 subscribers by the end of 2017, but I just kinda gave up on it. Since then I have made many other YouTube channels (all failing), and started editing with
iMovie on the family computer, which was much, much different than editing on the iPod. I’m kinda glad I didn’t go straight to a more advanced editing software then, because I feel like It would have discouraged me from continuing to edit videos due to the frustration it would cause me. But back to the point, using iMovie on the computer, even though it may not sound like much, gave me tons of practice and “training” from using it for 2 years. Before 2020, I never really thought of editing for people, or making any money from it. But in March/April of 2020, I stumbled across a story on instagram from a youtube channel that I watched, saying that they needed a video editor. Me being ambitious, I took up the chance to do it, and sent a DM to him. Low and behold, I got the job. I was using iMovie at the beginning when I started editing for him, but I then got Final
Cut Pro, which really launched my drive to make videos. Later in April, I made an Instagram page for my brand. I listened to “The Kid LAROI” a lot, so after some contemplation on what my name should be, I decided to go with “The Kid EDITOR”, but after finding out that that username was not available, I had to go with “The Kid EDTR”. At first I really did not like the name, but I realized it is much more unique and recognizable, and it grew on me a lot. Ever since then, I have been working on my editing skills in Final Cut Pro, and growing my following on Instagram. I spend hours a day messaging magazines, blogs and artists telling them what I do, and I am extremely thankful that my fanbase is full of positivity and support. Everyone says that I’m gonna be big one day, and I
have to say, that it is truly what keeps me motivated to keep doing what I do.
